Some Advice During Finals Week

Finals week can be hard week for students- cumulative finals, fifteen page papers, three hours+ for one test. It can be overwhelming. There are couple key things to remember as you feel like drowning  in a sea of academia...

1.) It's important to sleep, otherwise that 16 hours of studying you just did is not going to be retained

2.) Try to maintain a normal schedule, eat, work out, sleep like you normally would, otherwise your brain and body are not going to be functioning on the highest levels possible

3.) Know what works for you, if you study well in a group setting, study with a group, if you study better solitary, do that. Take care of business.

4.) There is such a thing as too much coffee. When you can hear colors, it's probably time to stop.

5.) A's are awesome, but most of those other letters are not symbols for failure. B's and C's are perfectly respectable. Don't kill yourself for the A.

College freshman, this is the time you create habits for yourselves as students, make smart choices. To those beyond that, and even in law school with me, you can do it! Huzzah!

Finish Line

I'm sitting at my kitchen, eating way too much food, killing time until I celebrate the holidays with my friends by, again, eating way too much food.

There's only one thing between me and successfully completing by fifth semester at Pitt State and that is my final in British Literature tomorrow. I feel prepared, but weirder things have happened. Such as playing my last jury ever today! Which was such a good feeling to be done with that part of my life. Music is great and all, but it is not something I want a career in.

Although I am a day early, I'm ready to celebrate a successful semester! Classes are wrapping up and I have so much to look forward to over the winter break, and next semester. I just wanted to tell everyone thank you for a such a blessed and memory-filled semester. You all know who you are, and how much I love you.

Enjoy the snow, enjoy the holidays, and be ready to light that third candle this Sunday.

Don't Stop Now!

Holy cow...where did the time go?

We are officially in the last two weeks of school here at Pitt State, which means this week is Dead Week.  And if there was ever a week more unjustly named, it would be this week.  There is nothing dead about this week at all, somehow professors interpret Dead Week to mean Cram-Everything-Into-This-Week Week.

Gee, thanks guys.

It's hard, those last few weeks of school.  Seniors are on the last little plateau before they finally get to graduate, college kids can smell the fresh cut grass of summer fun, and all we can think about is how close we are to being done with that final paper, instead of actually finishing that final paper.

Don't stop now, finish the final paper! Get your butt in a practice room and get the jury piece up to par, whatever you do, don't stop now!

It's like the last little bit of 5k, you know you're close, you can almost feel it, the finish line is literal just out of your vision, and all you want to is drink water and let your legs relax, but you can't.  You have to finish strong.  You've been training for this race for weeks, why give up now?

I know how hard it is to make yourself sit down and write that last paper, or go over your flashcards again, but believe me, it's going to be worth.  There is no better feeling than a job well done.  Work hard, and then give yourself the best reward you can receive, some time off.

Seriously, where has the time gone? Two weeks from now and I'll be chilling my grandparents lake house, or umpiring baseball every night.  But I can't do that until I do this...

So don't give up, get it done, summer is almost here!
