I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.

Wound too Tightly...

Sometimes, you need to just step away from the planner...

It's difficult, in a world of organized chaos to not organize. I mean, how else will you know what is due or what's coming up next week? But it's important that sometimes you need to let go of that planner.

Now, I'm not advocating for you to not use any sort of organizational method, but nonetheless, it is important to relinquish control every now and again. Don't get hung up on that fact that you have to control and micro-manage every little detail. Some of us are wound up so tight that its scary when we let things unravel even a little bit. But that fear is a good thing; a good time to practice patience and a good time to trust in the Lord. He kinda sorta knows what's up...

So relaxxxxxxx, and just let things happen!

Announcements, Announcements...

ANNOUNCEMENTS!!

I do have another one, and it's a big one!

My big plans for Camp Re-NEW-All are coming together wonderfully, and I just have to brag!

We are having a Staff Service Day in December, working with Catholic Charities in the Springfield MO area. The day will be spent in service to others, while still getting to spend time with the staff peers. There are so many reasons why I want to do this, but here are my top three:
  1. Servant Leaders
    1. This is a whole new opportunity for my staff to learn all about being good servant leaders in the community
  2. Team Building
    1. Another opportunity for the staff to get to know each other, work together, and have fun while still doing something for someone else
  3. A Dash of Catholic
    1. One of my goals for this entire year of my life and Camp is to add a dash of Catholic Christians in everything I say and do, which means everything I'm in charge of
You have to admit- that looks so good on paper! Now, what does this mean for my staffers reading this? Keep your eyes open for applications that will be coming out, information in parish bulletins and the Mirror (our Diocesan newspaper).

How's that for keeping busy?

Speaking of busy...it's Homecoming week, the start of the midterm weeks, and my to-do list (which is now LSAT free!!) is still so so long. But I love it.

So, what do you all think of my big big plans??

Vocations; Part One

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

When I was five, I wanted to be a dance teacher.  This dream continued until I realized dancers needed to be able to touch their toes, which is something I still cannot do.  If someone asked me from fifth grade up until my sophomore year of high school, my answer was lawyer.  It was shortly into my sophomore year when I started toying with the idea of being a high school English teacher, or maybe a band director.

But if you ask me today, my answer is lawyer.

This past summer, I had an opportunity to really think and pray about who and what I wanted to be in five and ten years.  I spent months tossing around ideas of what I wanted to be, and how I was going to get it.  Starting in early April, I toyed with various plans:

a different college; maybe I need more of a challenge

a double major; pushing me outside my comfort zone

maybe I just needed time off from school

I could just live on campus next year.

I couldn't reach a decision I was comfortable with.  Almost every one involved money I didn't want to spend, not one offered me the sense of peace or security I was hoping to find.  So, finally, I did what I had been avoiding the entire time.

I let go; I just let things happen.

The funny thing about our vocations, they're never too far off.  It's right there in front of you, maybe just a step or two ahead, and always attainable.

There's a reason people ask us what we want to be when we grow up.  It's because they're trying to plant those seeds young.  Help us to create, realize, and fight for our own dreams.

Remember that cliche:

"Do what will make you happy, not earn you the most money"

It's a cliche for a reason.
